Hildesheim is a modern city in pretty surroundings with a convenient location with regard to roads, railways and airports, approx. 30 km to the south of Hannover, the capital of Lower Saxony. It is surrounded by the Hildesheim rural district and has an atmosphere of its own because of its university and various different colleges on the one hand and its long history and a series of historical sights on the other.
Although it is a big city, Hildesheim is not too big, and this gives it a high degree of quality of life. It offers a large number of cultural and leisure opportunities as well as a wide range of educational institutions. The city of Hildesheim is now one one the seven major centres in Lower Saxony and is very attractive as a shopping city and a convivial cultural focus in one of the most beautiful regions of Northern Germany.
